I Remember Poem
I remember hiking the Grand Canyon
The way the hot, dusty sand smelled
And how the meaty smell drifted from the beef jerky.
I remember the sandy taste in my mouth
Like falling face-first on the beach.
Water's touch dribbling into my mouth
Was a snake slithering across my tongue.
I remember the Colorado River rapidly flowing
How the black bridge crossed it to even more dirt trail.
Each time I recall this memory, the urge to continue,
helping, perseverance overwhelms
brings me to my new goals.
