I Remember Poem
I remember drowning in a pool
The way the water smelled of chlorine
and how I struggled to smell clean fresh air.
I remember the smooth chemical water running down my throat
like the taste that a pill leaves on your tongue
Hand's touch was warm and welcoming
like an angel grabbing me from the grim reaper
I remember seeing the water and surrounding kids
how the kids were smiling and everything slowed down
Each time I recall this memory embarrassment fills my mind
cheeks blushing and remembering how big of a scene it made
encouraged me to learn how to swim so that never happens again.
