Sights of a beautiful country
A white heron circled the beach,
flapping its wings.
Headed north toward the open
waters of the tropics,
disappearing into the pink and orange streaked sky.
Brightness of the morning sun blinded me,
my eyes finally adjusted to the light.
A perfect day it was, the cloudless sky,
the slight chatter of birds in the fruit trees.
Warm breeze that brushed past my cheek, there was no place I would rather be.
Found poem inspired by Christina Gonzalez’s The Red Umbrella
The scene that was chosen communicated an important lesson about empathy and tolerance. My scene was when Lucia described all of the things around her in Cuba. She described a bird, the sky, the breeze, and the sun. Lucia showed empathy to her country ,Cuba, by telling how she felt about Cuba in a positive, respectful way. She also showed tolerance to her country by dealing with what it was like there. She tolerated the way Cuba looked because she described how wonderful the scenery was with the birds, breeze, etc. Everyone should show empathy and tolerance to something, even your own country. In conclusion, Lucia communicated an important lesson on empathy and tolerance which are things that we should all show.
