Gone
Bright clear day
Palm trees in the distance
It almost wasn't real,
Silent tears of goodbyes
They were out there,
Somewhere
panic filled their eyes,
it was time to go.
Hugs and kisses of regret,
at least they were here..
This poem is about cultural understanding. About the lonesomeness that the immigrants feel after they have sacrificed it all to be in america and a better life. Americans can learn from this and put themselves in the immigrants shoes in order to connect with people culturally and ethnically. Americans will slowly see that they have left everything behind, their homes, friends, and sometimes family, just to be here in america. Some Americans don't understand that freedom sometimes comes at a price. Having to leave everything you know and love.. things that most of us take for granted. This book and poem can teach Americans about what the immigrants do for freedom.
