Pd 3 Maddie B : Found Poem

                                                                  Eggs, Bacon, Toast

I eyed this food

I bought this,

 A little red bottle

A little taste from home

Pour, dip, bite

My tongue was fire 

Didn't stop drinking

My glass now empty

Like It?

Mexicans use it on everything

Mexico yes,   Cuba no

                 The scene above shows Mrs. Baxter attempting cultural understanding. This seemed like a important scene because it is showing her trying to make Lucia and Frankie feel welcomed and at home. She does this clearly by trying to understand the children's habits and everyday life.For example as you read above she read that Mexicans like spicy sauces so she offered them a spicy sauce. This did not work out although because she only found simple stuff like this for Mexico and just assumed they would enjoy the spicy sauce since Cuba is some what near Mexico. Lucia had to explain that Cubans do not enjoy any spicy flavoring. Even though she did not find much about the children's culture she still made a effort to understand. I applaud her for trying to understand these children's life style and trying to make there transition to the USA easier.
