What this scene captured in the story The Red Umbrella was acceptance of others. This scene really showed acceptance of others when Jennifer offered for Lucia to sit with her. What made a bigger impact was the fact that others pushing Lucia away when she wanted the sit with someone. Jennifer even saw the events with Lucia and Betty unfold. So it took courage for her to let Lucia sit there.
