PD6: Andrew Kim's Found Poem

"The Perfect Christmas Morning"

The air was full of the ocean's saltiness

I could feel the warmth of the sun on my bare legs.

perfect as day as I could imagine

"Wake up! C' mon

Lucy, it's Christmas

home-movie camera

Check your stockings.

"Humpf. All full of dust,"

"Woo-hoo!" Frankie yelled

He wiggled a baseball glove

Pulled out a small compact of pressed powder and a tube of pink lipstick.

A huge smile spread across my face.

Inspired by: Page 230 and 231 in The Red Umbrella by Christina Gonzalez

This found poem is based off of pages 230 and 231. Lucia and Frankie both celebrated Christmas in Cuba and being able to celebrate it in the United States reminded them of their parents in Cuba which made them happy. Also, the children acted very happy because they loved their gifts. Lucia and Frankie acting really excited is an example of people being treated differently and cultural understanding. "The Perfect Christmas Morning" shows how similarities in two different environments can show empathy for people.
