This poem captures the essence of the Red Umbrella - empathy and acceptance. It shows how important they are because without Jennifer, Lucia's best friend in American, she could have been bullied or any number of other things. Jennifer welcomed her and let her hangout with her when no one else would. The poem was found from when Lucia was getting on the bus on her first day of school. It was a perfect spot to find a poem about empathy because Jennifer didn't hesitate to accept Lucia. The New-Found Friend shows how important acceptance and empathy are to the Red Umbrella.
