This Thanksgiving, my family and I hopped in our car and drove over to our friends' house. They live in Radnor, so we don't see them that often. However, this was one day that we do, and it is a lot of fun! The first thing we do after getting out of the car is go on their trampoline. All eight of us. Somehow nobody gets hurt, even my little sister, who is seven years old. Once we get tired of that, we split up and go off into our different things. The small children like to hole up in their room, while we either play basketball or soccer.
After about an hour, the adults call everyone down for the main event, dinner. Of course, we have the basics, like turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes, but there are also unusual foods like hot tamale jell-o and ambrosia salad. This is not your normal, green, healthy salad. It is green, but it does not have leaves, or vegetables, or dressing. What is really in that bowl of heaven is mostly cool whip, with marshmallows and mandarin oranges mixed in. The green part is pistachio pudding. I usually heap this on my plate until my parents yell at me for hogging it. Then, when all the eating is over, the kids go outside and plop our stuffed butts on the ground to digest for about half an hour. Then we play manhunt. It is dark now, so now we can have the maximum amount of fun. If I'm it, which I almost always am, then everybody is really scared because I am very good at hiding. If I'm not, then nobody ever tags me because I know the best places to hide.
After about an hour of that, it is my favorite time, dessert. Pie, pie, and more pie are piled on my plate, with sides of ice cream and more ambrosia salad. Seconds, thirds, and fourths are next. No exercise comes after that, because everybody just stuffed themselves full of sugar. Unfortunately, eventually we have to go home, This is always hard because nobody wants to leave. With a few threats, pushing, and dragging, everybody is in the van and ready to go.
This is my favorite thing about Thanksgiving because it is a time when I get to see friends and family who I wouldn't normally see, and share great food and drinks with them.
