Over the break, my family went up to New York City over break for my sister's 11th birthday. We did many exciting things like Ellen's Stardust Diner and the Rockettes, but one thing that was not fun was how I broke an escalator.
An escalator seems hard to break, but of course I did not do it on purpose! It happened in an instant. I was with my mom and sister and we were just about to leave the American Girl Doll Store (longest morning of my life) when it happened. Recently, I hurt my hamstring, so I was trying to stretch it as I was on the escalator. I wedged my foot in between the two stairs to stretch the "knee area" of my hamstring. All was well until the stairs I was on started collapsing down towards the bottom. As I tried to pull my foot out in time, the escalator stopped, and I feel flat on my face! Trying to recover smoothly, I dusted myself off even though my knee had already started throbbing.
Everyone else was on the escalator and no idea what happened so my embarrassing error went unnoticed! Soon following, some employees got the machine up and running again. I hoped that no one would look at the security tapes nor did not think that they would hunt down a 13 year old from the Philly suburbs just messing up an escalator for 10 minutes.
A lesson that I've learned from this adventure is don't stretch on an escalator!
