Pd2: Gregory L- Thanksgiving

Eyes opening, I woke up to the bright Thursday morning sun shining through the window. I rolled out of bed and stumbled down the stairs. I quickly ate my cereal and milk while my parents rushed around the house, preparing for the drive to Maryland. My brother, Thomas, and I sat in the back of the car and watched movies, ate snacks, and played games as my parents and Verizon Wireless navigated the vehicle to our destination. Three hours after we left on our journey, we arrived at my Uncle and Aunt’s house. Even though we had been to their house before, we weren’t quite sure which one was theirs. We rang a doorbell, hoping we correct that we had found the correct house. A dog barked loudly when we did, which made me very nervous, since they didn’t have a dog last time, so I thought I had rung the doorbell of a complete stranger. Luckily, my Uncle answered the door, and I was especially relieved because I was the one standing at the door. Smile widening, I stepped through the doorway and saw my cousins, Sienna, Paige, and Reid. The last time I had seen them was two years ago, so I was very excited to see them. I also saw a small dog who was very excited to smell me, and her name was Lexi. My brother and I walked with them, away from the adults’ conversations, to the basement, where there were lots of toys. There used to be a bed, and I saw a table with toys scattered on the top and underneath, with games and other toys around the room since my cousins had been staying there. We all played together in the basement and when we became bored, we walked outside and played in the backyard. My Aunt and Uncle’s house has a good- sized yard, but  most of the yard slopes down a steep hill into a creek. We had to retrieve around ten balls and other various items that ended up down there, and of course, I had to get them because I am the oldest and can jump across the creek. We ran around and played for hours until, finally, Thanksgiving lunch was served. I was very hungry, as I usually am, and I put turkey, mashed potatoes with a lot of gravy, and bread onto my large plate. The food was tasty, and I had a great time talking and catching up with my family, especially because I don’t see them very often. Lexi, the dog, walked around under the kids' table, hoping to catch some fallen bits of food. After we finished eating, I had a bowl of Jell-O made with my grandmother’s old recipe, which I also liked. Then, we went outside again and I played with my brother and played with my cousins. In the evening, we all had pumpkin pie, among other types of pie, and I had dinner because we had eaten our Thanksgiving feast for lunch, and I was hungry again, which the adults were amazed at. After that, we had a great time watching Inside Out together, which I had been wanting to see. Going to my Aunt and Uncle’s house for Thanksgiving was very fun, and it was the first time, and hopefully, we will be back there soon with my cousins and their dog, having a great time together as a family, which is what I love about the holidays.
